Green Juice: The Elixir of Life

You might be seeking a healthy option to feed your body by using food and not supplementation as medicine. Maybe you are looking for an additional thing to help your body detox from the environment. Perhaps you are looking for something that will give you more energy and be as healthy as you can be. Juicing is a great and easy way to achieve all these goals!

A green juice goes beyond just the “color” green but can be seen as “natural” or “whole food” based. To be “green” is to love and take care of your environment but also your body. The Green Juice certainly offers that and more!

So what’s in it? *Make sure as many of your ingredients are organic as possible.

I would choose 1-2 cups worth of green leafy vegetables that can be mixed or the same (kale, spinach, romaine lettuce, green cabbage) - rich in fiber and micro-nutrients

  • 1-2 Granny Smith Green Apples - high in anti-oxidants and apple pectin

  • 1 bunch of fresh parsley - Great source of vitamin C, flavanoids, and many other minerals

  • 1 lemon

  • 1 cucumber if you are sipping on the juice throughout the day

  • 3-4 celery stalks -great electrolyte replacer rich in sodium and potassium, improves detox pathways, and great for inflammation

  • 1 inch of fresh ginger - ginger root is anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, and great for the liver

Wash everything gently and add all the ingredients into a juicer. Drink 4 ounces in 1 serving. The rest needs to be stored in the refrigerator and consumed withing 24 hours.

Safety Notes:

While juice fasts do exist and can be useful in a detox program, they are not intended to be done long term or as a stand alone treatment. They are wonderful as an addition to a clean, healthy lifestyle.

If you are a diabetic, I would be cautious of juicing as the fiber that slows down absorption of nutrients gets stripped. This can be valuable when you are trying to get micro nutrients into the body as quick as possible but this can spike your blood sugar quickly.
