As the holidays approach, schedules fill up fast, and stress levels can skyrocket. But thriving through the season is possible with a few simple daily habits that bring calm and balance, no matter how busy life gets.
Meditative practices don't have to be overly complicated, nor do they have to involved sitting and being "still." It's about getting away from the chaos for a moment in a quiet area that brings you a sense of peace and focusing on ONE thing.
Here are a few ways to practice calming your mind:
1. Morning Moments of Mindfulness
How you start your day matters. Setting a positive intention, reading a personal development book, and then journaling your thoughts is a habit most successful people do. I would recommend taking it a step further and contemplating how you will apply what you learned into the day you are about to start.
2. Practice “Mini Brain Breaks” Throughout the Day
We all need mini breaks each day to rest, recharge, and rejuvenate. Even if its just for 30 seconds to shut your eyes, taking a quick moment for yourself can help to decrease stress levels. Mini breaks in the day can be a walk outside, standing up to stretch, or something mindless for a moment.
3. Nourish Your Body Wisely
Holiday treats are everywhere, but prioritizing healthy meals can keep your energy stable and inflammation down. When you feel less fatigued or "inflamed", your stress tolerance goes up and things don't feel as "daunting." Clearer thoughts and more energy keeps you focused on those holiday tasks ahead. Try a protein rich breakfast and carrying healthy protein snacks for the afternoon.
4. Evening Wind-Down Ritual
In the evenings, create a routine to unwind. Light stretching, reading, or meditation helps release stress and prepares your body for restful sleep.
